Saturday Night Lime

Last night, we gathered for girls night at the hip new restaurant/bar called Lime. It's a Latin restaurant with the best sangria in town! We had a fantastic time.

The food was great and people watching was even better! There were at least three bachelorette parties going on while we were there - definitely entertaining!

Here's Jessica and Katie. I met Jessica for the first time last night. It turns out that Jessica used to live in the same townhome complex that Garth and I live in now. AND, to top it all off, we ended up sitting next to a former neighbor that we BOTH knew. Nashville is truly a big, small town.

There were lots of great stories and laughter. After it was over, we all agreed we need to do this more often!

After I left the girls, I met up with Garth and Blair. I just had to add in this picture. While we were at Sam's (our favorite sports bar), Blair accidentally knocked over his beer bottle. The people there know him so well that they gave him a "sippy cup" so he wouldn't spill again. Too funny!

Sleepy Bear

Happy Birthday to Adam!

This is Adam. Adam and Garth have been friends since grade school. We went to his house for his birthday party.

My birthday surprise

A couple weeks ago I turned 28! I had a great birthday - Garth took me to Flyte, a restaurant I had been dying to try. It was fantastic! But, the best part of my birthday was the most wonderful gift he surprised me with.....

A PIANO!!!

Yes, that's right. Garth bought me a real, live piano. He asked me a long time ago if I would ever want a real piano. As someone who took lessons for more the 10 yeas, the answer was YES! However, I always thought it would be down the road when we were in a bigger place. I have a keyboard, which is nice. But, a real piano is WAY better - from the way the keys feel and the way it sounds.

Anyway, Garth decided to look around to see if he could find one. Surprisingly, he found this Hobart-Cable piano on Craigslist for $200! The owner said the piano was 60 years old and that she needed to get rid of it because she was moving to a smaller place and wouldn't have room for it. Garth took his mom (who also plays the piano) with him to go look at the piano. She played it and it was in really good shape. Garth also found out that the piano was made in LaPorte, Indiana, which was right next to Valparaiso (where we used to live). So, Garth really believed we were meant to have that piano.

Clearly, I no longer need to find something to put in that corner of my living room!

The keys are in good shape - all of them work, which can be rare for an older piano.

Here's the inside of the piano, which shows that it was made in LaPorte, Indiana.

When we were looking inside of the piano, we noticed some pencil markings on it. We pulled out a flashlight and noticed there were dates written on it. It's hard to see in this picture, but the date in the picture is 4-13-30. There were several dates written on it, but the earliest one was February 4, 1920! So, the piano is much older than we originally thought. Garth did some research online to see what we could find out. It turns out that the serial number on the piano proves that it was built in in 1917!!!! SO COOL! I'm just so thrilled to have a beautiful piano, and a wonderful piece of history! Thank you, Garth, for such a thoughtful birthday present!!!

Garth's Class Reunion

A few weeks ago, we went to Garth's 10 year reunion for White House High School. One of his best friends from high school was organizing it, so we decided we should go. It was at the Sommet Center's Jack Daniel's Club in Nashville, so it was very nice!

This is Garth with his good friends, Trish (the event organizer) and her husband, Kevin. Trish and Kevin were high school sweethearts. Garth went to school with them through grade school and high school. They live in White House, a north suburb of Nashville where Garth grew up. We had fun hanging out with Trish and Kevin! Trish - you did a fantastic job with the event!

Visitors!

As you've likely noticed, I'm WAY behind on the blog. Sorry for the lack of updates! Things have been really really busy the last several weeks. At long last, I have a few minutes to post some updates from the past month or so.

1st Visitors

Sam, Garth's fraternity brother (and best man from our wedding), came to visit in July. Sam's in law school in Arkansas and was in town for the weekend. Here he is with his daughter Sophia.

2nd Visitors

In August, my parents came to visit for a weekend! They arrived on August 8, the day the Olympics started. We spent a LOT of time watching the opening ceremonies and all of the events.

We did get out on Saturday to check out the Tomato Art Fesitval. We brought Bailey along and she got a cool green scarf to wear. I was impressed she didn't try taking it off!

We went to the festival to see my friend, Jan. She had entered her dog, Hubble, in the "Fashion Faux Paw" dog show. Hubble posed as "LeBron Hubble" and had a basketball jersey on. Hubble won 3rd place! They even made the paper!

It was great to see all of our visitors! More are welcome to come. If you want to visit Nashville, or just come see us, our door is always open!
